On tap at the brewery.
A: Black, yet easily seen through, with a medium sized head and a little lace.
S: Aromas are very faint. there is a hint of roasted malt in the background.
T: A pleasant taste, yet very plain and boring. There is a subtle roasted malt flavor that is nice and could be brought forward. There is really no complexity to speak of.
M: Very thin and watery. No creaminess or crispness.
D: This beer is unoffensive and easy to drink. Unfortunately, it lacks most of the characteristics that make a stout wonderful.

On-tap at the brewpub.
Pours black with a half-finger light brown head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.
Smells of mild roasted malts with hints of cocoa powder. As the beer warms hints of phenols waft out.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Smooth and mild roasted malt flavors up front are joined by unsweetened chocolate flavors midway through the sip. Before the end of the sip a hint of synthetic caramel enters into things before a mildly bitter ending. As with the smell hints of phenols come out as the beer warms.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is OK. I finished my glass however I'm not sure about another.
Overall I can't say that I was terribly impressed with the stout. Too many off flavors so maybe I had a bad batch.

Because of the laws here, this beer can not be bottled. I think this is very unfortunate, because every time I drink this beer, I note,"man, this would be great with a little more age on it". Having said that
Appearance- Dark enough that it is nearly oppaque- This is in a brewpub, thus lighting is pretty minimal so this is not surprising. Lacing occurs, but only in the first half of the beer.
Smell-I get less chocolate and more coffee/black patent. Almost no hop to the nose.
Taste- Rather like it smells. I also place this beer in the Dry Stout Category. Great texture. Not tounge-coatingly oily like some stouts can be.
Drinkability- It is easy to put more than one pint of this stout down in a session which is harder to say for many stouts. As a lvoing patron of the MBP, I like this stout very much, and as a homebrewer, I modeled my first stout on this one.

A: It wasn't quite black--dark ruby and lightly transparent with a light tan coffee-and-cream colored head. Head retention left much to be desired--the beer didn't have hardly any head on top by the time I got to the bottom. Lacing was decent initially, but it faded further down the glass along with the head.
S: It's got a smooth chocolate and coffee aroma with faint roasted character. The predominant smell of this is sweeter chocolate malt mixed with some coffee and espresso. It's not as robust as I would like or expect.
T: This is a solid-tasting stout. I would classify it as an Irish Dry Stout because of the light body and smooth, creamy mouthfeel, however. There were prominent coffee and chocolate malts initially that were balanced nicely with some bittering hops. This had a slightly roasty, chocolate finish that lingered for a while.
M: Light to medium carbonation with excellent mouth coating and a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel. This one went down very easily like an Irish Dry Stout.
D: Fairly drinkable--it's got decent flavor and comfortable mouthfeel. I wish it would've been a little darker and been slightly more robust with the flavor.
