I don't normally like anything with "pale" in the name. But it wasn't hoppy or weak tasting. It had a fruity finish that surprised me. I really liked this beer and will buy it when I can find it again.

I'm thinking I got a bad batch. This was a very disappointing experience for me. This was fizzy, sweet, and highly reminiscent of my first efforts as a home brewer.

Part of the craft beer mixed pack that BC craft brewers association put out in spring 2013. This is in cans and part of the newly revitalized Old Yale. I love this pale ale and it is better than I remember it in its previous incarnation in big bottles and old ownership . The got the hops right and upped the hopping rate to make it one of the hoppiest BC pale ales. The balance is great and the nose keeps you wanting more. Well done Old Yale

Appearance- Pours an amber colour with a 1/4 width of bubbly head that quickly fades.
Smell- Bready caramel malts, grains, light earthy hops. Aromas more reminiscent of an EPA.
Taste- Bready caramel malts are predominate followed by grains, hint of hops, and a touch of yeast. Finishes a little sweet.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.
Overall- To start off, this is no APA. The aromas and taste lead it towards an EPA. The taste is not what I expected it to be. I think this needs to classified as an EPA. This has good drinkability but it doesn't "wow" me.

355ml can. Nice to see this brewery kickin' around again.
This beer pours a somewhat hazy, medium golden amber colour, with two fingers of dense, puffy, and chunky ecru head, which leaves a few random swaths of bleeding webbed lace around the glass as it duly recedes.
It smells of grainy, sweet biscuity malt, some acrid citrus notes, a staunch minerality, and leafy, weedy hops. The taste is bready caramel malt, skewed orange citrus peel, a twinge of rising yeast, and mildly floral, weedy, and piney hops.
The carbonation is a tad sprightly at times, but generally laid back, the body a standard medium weight, inclusive of the fruity, kind of pithy smoothness. It finishes mostly off-dry, the caramel, fruit, and sweet breadiness running things through.
With the malt and other sugary game players as they are, the meek hops seal the deal in a solid ode to things more English than American. Tasty enough, and the label gives no indication either way, so I guess it's time for BA to come about on this one.

355ml can poured into tulip 27/6/12
A nearly clear golden orange with lots of suspended particles being moved around by just a few tiny bubbles, thumbs width of dense foam hangs around long enough to leave a pair of pencil thin rings
S caramel and butterscotch with a little citrus and bread crust
T more of an English Pale to me, very close to the smell but with a little rind and yeast, decent beer but not what I was expecting
M full for the color and more bubbles then I would guess after looking at it, has a bready caramel aftertaste that sticks for a while
O perhaps higher marks if listed as a EPA because it reminds me of just that, still easy too drink and worth trying
decent beer but I might get a little board before finishing a 6-er, I seem to remember their IPA being a great English style IPA perhaps they weren't attempting an APA after all here

On tap at St Augustines in Vancouver.
A: 1/8" cream coloured head over amber liquid with excellent clarity.
S: Very fresh smelling with citrus, pine, yeast and malt all present in the smell profile.
T: Lemon, tangerine, pine overtop of a rich malt backbone with a very clean tasting yeast.
M: Medium viscosity and a medium level of fine carbonation.
O: Very drinkable and tasty.

Pours a clear copper color with an thin white head. Light aroma of caramel malt with an earthy element to it. The taste is pretty good with a nice balance of malt and hops. Medium-light bodied and quite drinkable. This is a good BC pale ale that's worth trying.

Bottle at cafe volo -06- Body is orange, cloudy, topped by a thick , beige, carbonated friendly head. Aromas are sharp, grapefruit, citric acids, orange coolers, vodka, hops. Good! Taste is bitter oranges, hops. Some malt sweetness. FInish is citric, acidic, hoppy taste is the finish. A good example of the style, quite unique. Shared with Radek and Dougshoemaker. Cheers!

650 ml brown bottle - no date info.
Bought on sale at BCLDB for $3.90, regularly $4.80
Cloudy amber colour, medium lacy head that's a bit off white.
Nose was a bit grapefruit/citrus, less malty than I'd expect.
Mouthfeel was good but the overall impression was that the beer was just lacking. Not overly anything it might serve well as an introduction to Ale for those moving from the mainstream.
Recommended with reservations (I wouldn't recommend it at full retail price)
