Appearance - Pours a dull copper with four fingers of frothy white head.
Smell - Piney and citrus hops, bready caramel malts, pine resin, grapefruit peel, pineapple.
Taste - Piney and citrus hop with moderate level of bitterness, followed up by bready malts, caramel, pine resin, and fruit (grapefruit and hint of pineapple).
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a lingering bitterness.
Overall - While this may not be the palate-wrecker that hop heads may be looking for, it is an enjoyable IPA nonetheless. I quite enjoyed the hop bitterness, along with the supporting malt flavour. Nice to see another Vancouver Island brewery make its way over to Cowtown

650ml bomber poured into tulip 13/7/16
A clear golden copper with just a couple slow tiny bubbles but somethings hiding in there because a tight finger of foam holds on for a while caking my glass with rings
S soft caramel, orange marmalade, spruce, candied pineapple, floral and almost woody, maybe a little dope? , some gummy bears smell sweet but I like them
T sweet and malty but I suppose you could call it "balanced" , everything's mellow but well rounded, some lemon rind as it warms
M has weight without being syrupy, softens up, mild bitter bite, sweet piney rind finish
O I rather enjoyed this one, no palate wrecker but soft all around and easy enough to drink
I'd buy this one again for sure, not a big piney, citric hop bomb but I'm liking the sweet malt and drinkabilty

650ml bottle - not feeling particularly affable myself right now, but I suppose that's neither here nor there for this purpose.
This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with three fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and rocky ecru head, which leaves some sagging and broken chainlink fence lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly recedes.
It smells of mildly dank pine resin, bready and doughy caramel malt, phenolic yeast, some muddled domestic citrus bitterness, and a further leafy, weedy, and cheaply perfumed floral green hoppiness. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a waning caramel sweetness, still way too-active musty yeasty notes (especially for the style), wet pine needles, damper orange pith, and more sort of understated leafy, earthy, and floral hop bitters.
The bubbles are quite plain and hard to really perceive, what with the blandly-rendered frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and smooth enough, I guess, but not in yer typically slick and less than obfuscated sense. It finishes off-dry, the base malt toughing it out, but, humph, that yeasty unpleasantness just doesn't know when to give it up, does it?
Affable? Not particularly - ok, maybe I'm channeling some hard to diffuse or relate to hate again, but really, there is very little going on here to recommend this as anything resembling yer average, and thus more or less agreeable west coast IPA. No big citrus and pine essences, for starters, and a lost in translation yeasty character. I'm usually averse to shitting on friends, even those a degree or two of separation away, but, yeah, I guess.

Got on trade! Served at 7deg C in a tulip
A- Opens well and pours a 1" high white head that is gone within the minute. Rather darkish gold colour and filtered clear
S- Not a whole lot here. Hoping that it's the wet hopping that counts!
T- Nice hops. Good bite and bitterness blend. Nothing sticks out at you on the malt end which by way just shows up in spades after the hops leave. It's like while one is a shooting star then as it calms down the malt just starts to shine through. Very enjoyable
M- Dry and tart. Gets a touch bitter at times
O- Very good brew. If I see it on tap I'll get it but it's not a want anymore. Nice overall blend.
Food Pairing
This very nice little IPA went very well with........ Deep fried chicken! Nice buttermilk dressing on a flour/cornmeal blend then hit that fryer
Enjoy!
