Pours thin but dark, with an aggressive pour yielding a thin layer of soda-like fizz that quickly vanishes. Botanical bitterness and dark roast with a bit of licorice on the nose. Much the same on the palate, but with additions of graham cracker, bittersweet baking chocolate, some peppery rye, and more sweetness from the multiple malts in the bill. The moderately thin but smooth mouthfeel leads to a dry finish with floral notes, botanical herbs and an occasional hint of dried banana chips. A ponderous list of malts and hops are provided on the label, but no flavoring additives or other exotic adjuncts; this is a well-executed RIS with an uncommon depth of flavor achieved through basic ingredients alone.

Tasted in a 12 oz snifter from draft at The Vine on January 27, 2017. Look is dark brown with a creamy tan head and lingering lacing. Smell and taste is rich chocolate with dark roasted malt aromas and flavors. Feel is full in body and silky smooth in the finish.
