Pitch black opaque pour with brown edging and khaki head and spotted lacing. Roasted malt, dark english yeast, earth, faint licorice and dark chocolate nose. Taste is simpler: roasted malt with an ending combo of earth, char, cocoa, and dark bordering on astringent yeast. Feel is roasted the whole sip, medium-light bodied, the smoothness is harsh, like petrified wood if that makes sense. Clean on the palate for the style

Not overly familiar with this style, but I picked this beer up because I am a fan of Maplewood. The beer was decent, with a dark opaque appearance and a light tan head that showed average retention. It features a nice subdued taste and aroma, but nothing outstanding. It seems like this is a solid beer, and a decent representation of the style.

Canned 10/17/23; drank 11/27/23 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque dark brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded big tan head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.
Sarsaparilla, mild chocolate & hints of fresh earth notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Cream soda & mild chocolate flavors up front; sarsaparilla bite on the finish.
Smelled a bit more appealing than it tasted, but it's a fine dark mild.
