L- Pours near black with a brief mid-tan foam cap.
S- Roasty-toasty+smokey.
T- I get some roasty-toastiness, sweetness plus some smoke. Also some ABV% knocking on my palate. The ABV% seems a bit more prominent than is ideal - not a criticism of 9%, oh no, just that I don't need 'ABV-burn' to appreciate it's presence.
F- CO2 in the mouth is low. Not too surprising at 9.0% though I've had plenty of beers of that and materially higher that have retained dissolved CO2. It's quite rich, verging on sweet. I'd suggest this beer is better suited to winter-time than mid-summer.
O- I can finish it though it's not really for me. I do not favour beers that are veering into sweetness. The sweetness here reminds me of a Milk (lactose) Stout. As it progressively warm a touch the sense of ABV% is risng fast to the point of being quite shouty. Not a beer I'd buy again.
Bought from Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge, 440ml can £5.49 BB: 12-10-2023
