Formerly Rannoch Scotch Ale

Warm, affable, weighty: Our Scotch Ale is profound, wonderfully civilized, and always welcoming.
Featuring hints of toffee, dried fruits, and British tea biscuit, Wolf’s Wee Heavy Scotch Ale is malty and smooth. Our Scotch Ale features traditional Maris Otter malt, is naturally caramelized in a direct fire kettle and cooked to a deep, dark copper colour. Deliciously rich and delightfully complex, Scotch Ale is a great conversation starter.

Does the Scoth Ale style proud. Malt forward, molasses and toffee on the nose without the sweetness on the palette. Beautiful deep colour topped with a rich tan foam. Missing some smoke or peat for the complete experience but a damn good sipper from a Island brewer that hits the mark.

I really like the artwork of this label.

Appearance - Pours a mahogany brown with three fingers of frothy tan head.

Smell - biscuity malts, toffee, hint of earthy hops, faint hint of plum.

Taste - Biscuity malts at the forefront followed by the toffee. The hint of earthy hops and faint hint of plum come in afterwards.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes dry with a lingering malty sweetness.

Overall - An impressive Scotch Ale from Wolf Brewing. The malts are very well showcased in this one. Looking forward to sampling some of their other brews.

Lovely new label by a local artist and now available in the Vancouver area. This is a very good Scottish Wee Heavy that finishes dry but packs a solid malty mouthfeel . I am impressed and actually prefer it to the Russell Angry Scot which is probably the best year round Scottish Ale. Looking forward to trying more from this brewer who has arisen from the ashes of fat Cat in Nanaimo.

Wolf Brewing's 'Rannoch Scotch Ale' @ 6.0% , first sampled at 'the Island BEER Fest' back in March on tap , this review from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $6.50

A-pour is a clear dark amber from the bottle to glass with a small off white/tan head that is leaving a spotty lace along the pint

S-caramel , bisquit and hints of toffee

T-smooth and robust , a lot of malty goodness ,

MF-ok/mild carbonation , medium to full bodied

Ov-ok beer , I really liked this beer on tap @ IBF , the bottle version not quite as much
