Sampled on-tap at Vices & Versa

Appearance: Honeycomb yellow, clowdy, with a thick frothy head that held it's own for a while.

Smell: I was expecting a lot more banana. I found it amongst the grainy aroma, but I really, really had to look.

Taste: You can taste the wheat up front, than a mix of bitterness and acidity, and the finish is malty sweet. Not a bad Weizen, but not a great one either.

Chubby 1/2 liter crown top bottle from the Joannette Metro in Montreal. This put a cloudy light gold beer with a nice frothy meringue cap in my weizen glass. Lightly carbonated no yeast dregs in the bottle...this is not bottle conditioned heffe. Interesting nose: light pineapple notes mixed with sweet jelly fruit gums....peppery on the tongue light body...sweetish...acidic with banana-peach notes and dry finish from the wheat...light bready aftertaste...this is very good rendition of heffe weiss. I’ll look for it on tap this summer in Montreal.

Appearance – This one poured a beautiful, hazy yellowish-orange with a full, weizen head that lingered for about five minutes and left lots of shaving cream type of foam.

Smell – The light yeast notes were mixed with some fruity grain.

Taste – This is a heavy hefe. The strong banana, peach, and other summer fruits are true to the style, but the yeast is barely noticeable. This Weizen is supported by a grainy backbone.

Mouthfeel – This one is heavy for a weizen and probably medium-bodied.

Drinkability – I enjoyed this interpretation of the style, although it certainly wouldn’t qualify for a German-type of Hefe Weizen.
