Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa and light coffee. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, bakers chocolate, light coffee and rye bread; only a touch of rye tartness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A very nicely brewed imperial rye stout. There is a good char character that almost gives this the flavor of a well toasted, just short of charred piece of rye bread, really well done. There are somewhat light, but satisfactory chocolate and coffee flavors, but the emphasis is on the rye, and because it is so distinct and flavorful, that is enough for a very satisfying stout. Fine roasty finish with more hints of toasted rye bread. They did an excellent job on this one and I'll be watching them more closely.
