A collaborative effort with friends in the coffee world to celebrate the bright, more expressive flavor that can come from hops and coffee in place of traditional of bitterness. This beer is brewed with wheat, fermented with our house brett culture, and blended with a rotating light roast. Together they create a beer rich with awakening aromatics, and nuanced fermentation and fruited character.

375 mL bottle. Gushes instantly. Big white head on a cloudy orange body. Smells of brett. Very earthy and funky. A little acidic, too. Coffee behind it also lends acidity. Tastes very sharply of coffee. A little bit of grapefruit hops. Brett and almost tart from the coffee, hops, and brett combination. High carbonation. Not sure I like this.

November 14th, 2019 - Without peering into the glass one would expect this to be a kind of coffee stout, or a winter warmer with beans plopped somewhere into the brewing process. So I was a bit surprised when a golden blonde liquid poured from the bottle, and punched up a dome of foam not unlike a Golden Ale classic, Duval. More confusing yet is the aroma smells of a sharp saison, clear and expressive and pitching with fresh grain. The flavor is a combination of the two impressions, with a low-carbonation and low bitterness up front that lets just a touch of apple flavor through, and then settles and coils in on itself like a long-lasting Czech pilsener flavor. It is dry and delightful and though I was hankering for the roasted touch of coffee, this is an unexpectedly delicious surprise.

16.9 oz. bottle

Pours hazy gold with a dense creamy white foam head. Smells like malty golden grains, light roast coffee, some vegetal green pepper, floral citrus, orange rind, grapefruit zest, sweet lemon, some funky tropical pineapple, pale bready cracker, with earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like slightly spicy vegetal peppers, roasted coffee, floral citrus, orange rind, grapefruit zest, lemon peel, funky tropical pineapple, malty grains, pale bready cracker, wet straw, hay, with earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy with moderate smooth carbonation. Overall a nice coffee brett IPA.

On tap.
Looks nice, amber orange with a fluffy white head.
Smells of green coffee beans, earthy hops, perhaps some slight musty Brett yeast. The coffee and hops blend for a fresh green flavor, not so much the coffee roast.
Taste is not as good as I expected. A bit spicy, earthy and somewhat herbal/grassy hop. The coffee flavor is not as pronounced as the aroma was, the blend with the hops and Brett almost feels peppery.
Feels ok, medium body and dry finish.

Overall not my favorite from Kent Falls. Still, an interesting beer I'm glad I tried it.

ACoffee Brett IPA sounds like the punchline to a joke about craft beer drinkers, and it doesn't sound complimentary. And yet, of course I bought a bottle anyway. I went in with mixed expectations, but how do I like this beer as much as I do??

It pours clear tan at first, hazy at the bottom, thick head that's too legit to...retire? Hmmm...

The smell jumps out at me and I get a hard briny whiff of sushi. Yeah, like an entire platter of sushi. Seaweed, soy sauce, and especially imitation crab meat. A teensy hint of brett in the background, but that's not the main thing.

Tasting it finally reveals some coffee...okay, quite a bit actually, and some dry, bitter cocoa, roasty and almost smokey malts, and again, no hops and barely any discernable brett influence.

Like I said, the coffee/brett/IPA combo seems like something my beer geek buddies would have come up with while trying to predict the most improbable new craft beers, and I only bought this because the brewery is solid and I'm a sucker for a gimmick. But shoot, if I'm not solidly enjoying this unique, peculiar, unpredictable adventure of a beer.

Drank on tap at Arethusa al tavolo, Bantam, CT
Served in a Pilsner glass

A finger-tall cap of bright white seafoam topped the nearly crystal clear, golden colored body. The head fell relatively quickly. A few streaks of lacing coated the glass.

The aroma was really intriguing and did not smell anything like I anticipated. Coffee notes dominated. Fragrant, freshly brewed coffee to be precise. Even though the beer was a bright golden color, I swore I picked up some sweet chocolate malts. Overall, fairly straight forward but really pleasant. By the drink's end, subtle citrusy hop notes came forth.

The flavor profile perhaps had more going on than the nose, but it was not as smooth or as impressive. Malty on the front end. Slightly sweet. Coffee was definitely noticeable but not as much
as in the nose. As the beer moved along the palate, the hops really kicked in. Citrusy and bright hop notes. Orange and grapefruit came through strongest. There was a slight earthy quality as well. Grapefruit rind lingered in the finish.

The mouthfeel was solid. Medium bodied for the style. The liquid contained a fine, zippy effervescence that turned frothy and slick on the palate. Fairly creamy and smooth.

Kent Falls Coffeemaker IPA is a really interesting beer. While it looked like a Pilsner or some type of a pale lager, it tasted like a coffee-infused, hoppy brown ale. Although I picked up no Brett notes, this beer had plenty going on regardless.
