#72 ranked Leipzig Gose | 4.60% ABV

Kent Falls Brewing Company
Connecticut, United States

Notes: Rotating availibility. Bleeding across the dimensional constraints of multiple style boundaries, Alternate World fuses the structure of an Old World gose with the aromatics of the modern New World hoppy ale. Brewed with sea salt, soured with our house lactobacillus culture, and fermented with our house Brettanomyces culture, Alternate World is finally saturated with Falconer’s Flight, Centennial and Cascade dry-hops, creating a delicious harmony of other-worldly funky citrus.

A: The beer is slightly hazy light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of sourness are present in the nose along with faint hints of citrus from the hops.
T: The taste starts off a little sour and salty and has some hints of citrus towards the back end of the taste.
M: It feels light-bodied and slightly tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer still tastes like a gose and the dry hopping serves to add some slight complexities to the smell and taste without overpowering the underlying beer. It is very easy to drink and has some refreshing qualities.

Appearance: Quite the gusher, it took me about five minutes to carefully pour the honey colored

Smell: Textbook lacto, with passion fruit, salt and funk

Taste: Lacto forward, with passion fruit flavors building; throught the middle, the funk and tart aspect builds, with the salt arriving, after the swallow; the hops are buried, underneath the sour tones but there are there in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with bouyant carbonation

Overall: A treat to drink - wish it wasn't such a gusher

Thanks, AaronF, for the opportunity

Bottle purchased at The Beer Belly in Albany, NY.

This one pours really foamy- it takes a long time settle down. Once it settles, there's a beautiful foamy and sticky looking head, with a small amount of lacing.

Smells like clean Lactobacillus souring, tart lemon, bitter pine, tart grapefruit, sour orange peel, and grassiness.

This is super delicious. It's got a pleasantly clean sourness to it, lemony and minerally, with a slight funk, tart grapefruit and orange, and a nice bitterness that helps keep the sourness in check. This is just incredibly well crafted.

This is light bodied, airy and fluffy in the mouthfeel, with a high level of carbonation.

Kent Falls does really great stuff, and this is no exception.

Definitely not as good other goses I've tried. Lots of carbonation, much more sour and sweeter than the norm. Also, can't really taste any of the expected herbal notes from the coriander; perhaps it doesn't have any of it. Lastly, this beer is supposed to have an addition of centennial hops, but to be honest, it is so sour that you can't distinguish a hoppy character.

Bottle poured into a snifter. Nice floral, citrus, dry-hop aroma with some lactic sour of the gose. The taste has a nice dry, bitter hop finish with a little bit of saltiness. Descent amount of sour for a gose coupled with moderate carbonation. This is definitely a unique beer and not for everyone. I really enjoyed it though. Worth seeking out, cheers!

500 mL bottle. Hazy pale yellow. Smells of tropical hops, wheat, and lemon acidity. Taste is quite tart. Tropical fruits. Lemon and lime. Wheat and a barely salty finish. Light, but strong on the sourness. Refreshing. Maybe a little too sour for what else it has going for it, though.

Hazy gold brew with a fingers worth of quickly receding whitish head. Lots of prickly carbonation in this one. The salt addition is rather sharp when coupled with the very tart fruity flavors. This could be the base of an outstanding brunch cocktail. Be aware, this is not mildly sour. It is mouth puckering in a good way. A twelve ounce pour feels right, any more could become taxing. Would have liked to see the Brett work a little more in this beer, but that said this is another hit from Kent Falls.

500ml bottle poured in a tulip.

a: Hazy Straw colored body. 2 finger white fluffy head that actually made noise until the head subsided into a thin ring around my glass.

s: Wheat and funk. Champagne vinegar on the end.

t: Grapefruit and salt dominate this beer. Tinglely, spicey and funk Brett finish with slight hints of hops.

m: Medium light body with mild carbonation. Puckering sourness stimulates the senses and makes one take notice.

o: I usually don't drink Goses in the winter but it is 60 degrees out so I picked one up. This is my idea of a Gose and I love KFs use of Brettanomyces. Docked on the taste for the lack of hop presence.

A really well done gose with medium amounts of coriander and lemony tart, but still very lighthanded on the use of salt. A refreshing mouthfeel, without being too light and watery.

Look: hazy light yellow, quickly dissipating head
Smell: funk, lemon
Taste: sour, salt, sour, lemon, sour
Feel: light, prickly carbonation
Overall: sour and tart, solid, but I think I prefer Anderson valley gose and blood orange gose

Had on tap at Craft 260 today. Poured cloudy straw colored with a small white head that left some lacing. Sour aroma of sweetness and vinegar. Really great taste, starts slightly sweet but is blasted away by a super tart note. Some white peaches and lemon come forth. Finishes wet and tart with the salty aftertaste. Easy to crush a few of these. By far one of the best goses I've had. Kudos to Kent Falls on this one.

On tap at j Timothy's in plainville. Solid gose, had a clean tartness, not overly sour no apparent hop aroma or flavor, light fruitiness clean, dry finish. A very sessionable beer that I could drink all day

Had as part of a flight at Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford, CT.

Very interesting beer, this one was. Had a pretty sour, almost meaty scent to it that reminded myself and my girlfriend of lemon chicken. The taste is mouth-puckeringly sour (though not necessarily in a bad way) before finishing with a bit of a wheaty aftertaste. There's a bit of funk throughout as well. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but not egregiously so.

This definitely isn't something I would drink regularly, but I found it intriguing enough to keep sipping it.

Pretty cloudy, decent head that doesn't dissipate as quickly as a normal gose. Definitely a zesty, lemon, grapefruit forward gose. Not numbingly sour at all. Extremely quaffable that I could session all day on a beach. This is extremely impressive.

On-tap 8/1/2015 at Armsby Abbey, in Worcester, MA served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a light cloudy yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains wheat, citrus and light malts.

T: The taste starts out with a quick burst of tartness which transitions into some lemon flavor. Then some mild breadiness comes in from wheat and a light malt character creating a good balance for the style. The after-taste is slightly tart.

M: Smooth and very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not filling at all, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

On tap in shaker glass
L: cloudy yellow, kind of like grapefruit juice. 2 inch head, dissipated after a couple minutes
S: not a terribly strong aroma, but a faint combo of lemon and floral
T: puckering, lemony sour, almost shandy-ish. Can't discern much saltiness or hoppiness over the sourness.
F: tart feel, like eating a sour patch kid. Not bad
O: enjoyable, but not as balanced as I'd expect. The sourness takes over, even though this is supposed to be a hoppy gose I can't get much in the way of hops and just the slightest touch of salt
