Our second collaboration with Marcell Davidsen. A porter brewed with toasted hay in the mash. Soft notes of toffee and spice added to the roasted chocolate character of the darker malts.

Big ol' thanks to Patrick for sending this my way! Second cutting pours like strong coffee. The darkest of brown, bordering on black. Hints of brown along the top and bottom of the glass are the only spots noticeable, otherwise it's black. The khaki head forms easily with snap, crackle, and pop but also fizzles out to a thing ring rather fast. It's a good looking porter.
The nose is rich, decadent, and mouthwatering. Dark chocolate and cocoa powder kick things off. A tendril of smoke adds some depth along with moderate roast. There's a welcomed anise quality that rounds it all out. The bit of smokiness is peat-y and reminiscent of Scotch but it's mild overall. A drizzle of molasses as well. This is an excellent smelling beverage.
The flavor follows the nose pretty closely. High cocoa dark chocolate off the bat segues into moderate roast and a softly bitter coffee characteristic. That coffee comes with a dash of cream. The anise isn't as prominent as the nose suggested but the toasted hay is more so. A little floral, soft grassy notes. The faintest smoke that I can't tell if it's from the roast or the hay., probably the hay. This is really good beer.
The body is moderate in weight. The bubbles are there but immensely soft. This beer is plush and velvety on the tongue while remaining fairly light. The finish is dry and leaves me wanting another drink immediately. If this were in 6-packs I would drink plenty, let me tell you.
Damn, this is good beer. One of the better new to me porters I've tasted in a long time. The complexity packed into this beer at only 5% is nuts. None of that complexity fights with any other. It's delicious and easy drinking. Thanks, Patrick. Great choice!

Bought a bottle at the Beer Shop at East Longmeadow, MA. The beer pours with a dark, black appearance with no head except for a thin ring around the glass. In terms of aromas, could definitely smell malts and burnt sugars. The taste was really nice; carbonated malts mixed with subtle hop characteristics with caramel and some cocoa. The mouthfeel was probably the best feature to this beer: excellent carbonation that gives the beer a good crispness and helps bring out the flavors. Overall, great mouthfeel with some good, balanced flavors.

Labeled as a toasted hay porter but not exactly sure where that tastes shows up or how I might even identify it amongst the subtle chocolate, brown sugar tastes; an OK beer but very, very light in body for a porter in February for my palate

Pours a deep brown- almost black with a fleeting wisp of tan head that evaporates quickly. Very faint caramelly malt aroma. Taste follows nose. Very smooth and creamy. Totally enjoyable.
