Another beer from my friend up north, thanks, Peter. Using a pint glass, I served this beer at 44 degrees. A frothy and airy white two-fingered head was created from the pour. The retention is somewhat pitiful. However, the dissipation left loads of lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 4 - A pale gold with straw color highlights. The beer is somewhat hazy. Overall the appearance is okay; not too happy to see how little head retention was.
The hops are pungent, with floral, mangos, pears, herbal, resin, orange, grass, passion fruit, and pineapple. Other aromas are crackers, yeasty, a bit of earthiness, and this odd metallic aroma. I have never come across this aroma. When I smell it, I think of a sterilized machine shop. You have the machine shop aroma but the sterilized with the chemical.
That weird metallic pharmaceutical flavor is persistent. I am guessing it is Vic Secret hops from the name. It does have woody, passion fruit, mango, and pineapple with a pear-like aftertaste. The other flavors are crackers, yeasty, and bready.
The mouthfeel is slightly astringent, finishing dry and crisp. The body is medium, and the carbonation is medium as well.
I am not a fan of Vic Secret hops. The weird pharmaceutical flavor with metal throws me off. Good Pale Ale, nonetheless.
