It's hop harvest time, so obviously we've been working closely with our friends at Four Star Farms to get you their best and freshest cones. 4* Magnum is the first in a series of three sour beers featuring single hop varieties picked off the bine just hours before ending up in our beer. This gets you the best, clearest taste of these guys we can get you. Expect big pineapple and grapefruit flavor supported by a big amount of tartness. Get it while you can, this is a once-a-year brew!

On tap at McGillicuddy’s, Williston, VT. This was poured into a mini-snifter. The appearance was a nice looking hazy bronzed orange color with a thin looking glazed over looking perhaps ruddy darkness to it. A light thin one finger white foamy head dissipated extremely quickly. The smell started off with sweet apple, sour green apple, and some light citrus. The taste takes the previously mentioned flavors and leads into a slightly dry and woody aftertaste running into the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine for the style and for me. Nice woody texture completes and abides in nice sour to sweet to tart feels rolling about. Overall, I liked this one, but I don’t see the grapefruit and pineapple.

On-tap 11/20/2016 at Natty Greene’s Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a very thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains wild yeast, esters, citrus and light malts.
T: The taste starts out with tart flavors of citrus and wild yeast funk. Then some mild breadiness comes in from a thin malt character. The hops presence is very mild and brings a decent balance. The after-taste is tart.
M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is solid sour beer to drink for a while.

Massively sour in the nose and taste. Backed by a hop dryness that offsets the sours. Distinctly different beer with a huge amount of character. Magnum hops are definitely present and welcome with this palate puckering sour bomb.
