No frills, just great wild yeast from Brattleboro, Vermont. Kettle soured with wild lactobacillus.

Canned 7/7/23. "NO BS" stamped on the side of the can
This is the beginning of the end for Hermit Thrush. I finally stopped by the brewery for their last day of service and walked away with over 4 cases of beer. It’s been a while since I’ve had anything from them and this feels like a good jumping off point, it doesn’t get more basic than this. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about
Pours a cloudy orange gold with 2 fingers of soapy white head that fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
Yeah the nose is definitely basic but it's well balanced in its tartness. I'm picking up on aromas of lemon juice, crackery malt, lime zest, raw grain, sweet honey, apple skin, wet hay, and light white pepper
There's even more of a punch to it in taste but still remains basic. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting lemon juice, crabapple, crackery malt, sweet honey, white pepper, pear skin, lime zest, and light grassy hops. The swallow brings notes of lemon juice, apple skin, wet hay, sweet honey, lime zest, stone, and white pepper
A light medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer. Finishes bone dry and refreshing
For their most basic offering this is damn good. It's gonna be fun working through all the beers I got from them

From a 16oz can stamped ‘Batch Code 08-01-2…’ and then something illegible. Served in a tulip.
Pours a glowing, sunshiney peachy-gold with a scant finger of fizzy suds. Retention is unremarkable, leaving a wispy cap and collar.
Nose is clean and sharp, aroma of tart lemon and underripe berry.
Taste is in line with the nose, light, bright, razor-sharp and clean as a whistle. Tasting lemon and unripe strawberries. A bit thin, more like the water the fruit was rinsed in than the fruit itself, with a mild bleu cheese-like fume in the sinuses, just for a second at the finish, and gone.
Feel is soapy, slick and slippery, medium-thin bodied with bright, tingly carbonation.
Overall, a nice, erm, basic sour. Mammosilenus is partial to unfruited kettle soured beers so Hermit Thrush is her go-to and this, along with Po-Tweet, are her favorites. Whenever I’m the other side of the river I try to bring her back a few cans. (I stole one).
