This barrel aged sour golden ale is a select blend of golden ales aged in red and white wine barrels, fermented with Brattleboro wild mixed culture. November 2019 blend vintage, brewed in 2018.
The pale base malt recipe of this beer allows the bright apricot notes from our wild yeast to shine, and the flavors of red and white wine barrels to come through. The long maturation time in oak harmonizes the flavors, and acts as a backdrop to the phunky flavors that only 18 months with mixed microbes can do. A touch of malic acid from chardonnay barrels also adds to the velvety complexity of this beer. The result is complex yet balanced, fruity, and of course, phunky.

Canned 1/31/22
Hermit Thursh already makes rather funky beers, but what changes when it’s super and an F becomes a Ph and does so 11 times? I’m not sure, but I am excited to find out. In all seriousness, this one sounds great, using both red and whits wine barrels for the same beer isn’t super common. Let’s dive right in
Pours a cloudy brownish orange with 2 fingers of soapy off white head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
Oh yeah, this is indeed super funky in the nose, tannic notes all around. I’m picking up on aromas of cherry pit, tannic red wine, sharp oak, crabapple, wet hay, white wine vinegar, white tea, wildflower honey, and earthy wheat
It loses some of its edge in taste, but it’s still damn good. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tannic red wine, smooth oak, pear skin, lemon zest, white pepper, earthy wheat, sweet honey, and wet hay. The swallow brings notes of white wine vinegar, sharp oak, stone, earthy wheat, tannic red wine, wet hay, light honey, and black pepper
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes quite sticky, really coating the mouth
This one is a bit all over the place. The mouthfeel certainly isn’t doing anything to help it but it’s still pretty solid

Can dated 1/30/22 (I think), poured into a Teku glass. Deep amber color, fluffy white head and lacing that quickly recedes. Steady effervescence in the glass. Lots of funky aromas, Brett and Meyer lemon, white wine. Tons of funk (lives up to the name!) flavors: oaky, lemon rind, barnyard, kombucha. Clean finish. Was excited to try this one given the name (funkier the better) and it did not disappoint. Wishing this one was included in the cellar/barrel-aged mix pack!
