Brewed and spontaneously inoculated in 2019 with wild yeast in our Vermont coolships . This barrel aged ale is fruited with local cherries in the barrels, and is a testament to our region’s exceptional terroir. Aged 3 years in red wine barrels. Bright fruit supports a deep oak character, with notes of pecan and stonefruit.
We recently began placing a few extra special, very limited products into bottles. These are smaller blends, the best of our barrels, and this bottle will age well for decades. We release fewer than one thousand bottles of each blend.

Amber color and clear. Minor head that settles to a fine layer of rim bubbles. No lacing.
From a foot away from the pour, I smelled dry biscuit. Placing my nose closer, sour cherry came forward, nearly overwhelming. More sour than sweet by a 2 to 1 margin. Subsequent smells are more mellow.
The taste i strongly sour, but there's some dry bitterness coming through. While the cherry is present, it serves only as a spice per se. Neutral body with a lower carbonation level. The finish loses some of the sourness but the bitterness increases. It's like going from lemon juice to grapefruit rind. The aftertaste is bitter-sour with the bitterness lingering longer.

And now for one of only two bottles that I picked up on my Hermot Thrush trip. Both were actually in this coolship series, the other being a plum one which is honestly more exciting, but I’m a sucker for a good Kriek as well. Let’s pop it open and find out what it’s all about
Pours a cloudy brownish orange with a finger of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a thin ring and leaves decent lacing
The nose is very funky, more funky than fruity even. I’m picking up on aromas of sharp oak, red wine vinegar, molasses, black cherry, smoky tobacco, toasted pecan, cocoa powder, crabapple, old leather, wet hay, and a touch of blue cheese
It’s sharper in taste which I’d normally like, but it takes away from the nuance a bit. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting old leather, black cherry, brown bread, smooth oak, tannic red wine, crabapple, light tobacco, and lemon zest. The swallow brings notes of crabapple, red wine vinegar, sharp oak, pecan, cherry pit, stone, light sherry, and smoky tobacco. Warming up mellows some of the initial harshness thankfully, but it still doesn’t live up to the aroma
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a bit sticky but dries out over time
I was expecting a bit more from this one, but it’s still quite good all things considered. Hopefully the plum variant has more to offer
