Bottle purchased at The Delmar Farmer's Market by my dad.
Pours a dark, oily looking black, with a tight, half inch white head, and a little bit of lacing.
Smells like chocolate, roasted malt, some whiskey, and the slightest bit of heat.
For a 9.5% ABV BA porter, this one hides the alcohol fairly well. There's some astringent bitterness that could be from the alcohol, but it also could be the whiskey and the oak flavors. I wish the oak flavors were a bit more toasty and warming, rather than bitter and woody, but it's nice that it's there anyway. There's a lot of chocolate and coffee, but no cherries, as the brewery claims you should be able to taste. It's slightly smoky. The whiskey character is definitely out front, reminding you that it is indeed whiskey-barrel aged.
This is medium bodied, slightly thin for the ABV, but still quite creamy and full in the mouthfeel. It's pretty drinkable.
A nice start for this new brewery, I foresee this brew and the brewery improving over time.
