Trade from connecticutpoet. No can dating.
Pours a caramel amber color with a fleeting head that starts at a thin ring then disappears immediately. No head left.
Slight floral aromas, some honey, caramel malt, slight anise.
Flavor starts with anise, then chickory, then caramel malts, honey, slight brown sugar, slight toasted malt. A floral element creeps up at the end and then fades into more sweet caramel malt.
Feel is crisp and creamy at the same time, pretty nice mouthfeel.
Overall this is a bit sweet for my tastes and I'm not really a fan of Maibocks in the first place. It's drinkable, and it's growing on me, but it's not one I'm sure I can recommend. I'll try to finish this one.
Edit :
Throughout the night I have sipped various beers and kept this one on retainer in a glass nearby. It has turned to liquid candy. It's slightly offensive at first, but then it's inviting. You do owe it to yourself to try this. I think it's actually very very good in the right circumstances. It's just not really great at being a good Maibock or a top quality craft beer really. But liquid kettle korn and grainy sweet cloying goodness? Slap my ass.

Nice amber color on this maibock, with a thin head and no lacing.
Aroma was slightly offputting. I got some sweetness with a bit hit of pond water. I've had others like that which tasted good, so I went forward with some hope.
Unfortunately I didn't get the redemption I had hoped for. It tasted grainy at first, almost like an adjunct. Caramel malts and some sweetness followed, but the graininess overshadowed everything.
Mouthfeel was thin and kind of odd. Not that great.
Overall I was unimpressed and I gave the rest of my sample to someone else at the table, who liked it a lot. Her impression was that it tasted very much like a trail mix bar she had tried before, with a nuttiness/seedlike quality she couldn't place. Such is life.
