A double-take on the legendary Mountain Candy IPA! Two cans of Mountain Candy snuck off to a dark corner of the brewhouse and... ya know. One thing led to another, and a few months later a new beer was born! All the hoppy magic of Mountain Candy, doubled!

12 oz can from Scrooges (SC).

I was worried that Double Candy might be a misguided attempt to make a sweet DIPA, but while this has detectable sweetness, overall it's about as bitter as a typical DIPA. The aroma is a bit of a mess of various notes that don't mix as well a hoped. The flavor, however, features herbal, piney, and fruity notes that create a good, dynamic flavor profile.

L: yellowish body with some haze; off-white head
S: candied citrus, pine, mango, banana?

O: good DIPA; maybe a bit too sweet for my liking

Poured into a narrow lipped pilsner pint glass: color is gold, pretty transparent, head is off white and frothy with at least 2 inch depth, head remains tall and great lacing on glass sides.

Smell is light malt, sweet candied note, hint of citrus and stone fruits.

Taste leans to sweet candied hops and alcohol - citrus, grapefruit, in between pithy/juicy, limited earth/pine.

Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate/strong sweetness, lighter bitterness for style and lingering sweetness.

Overall a sweeter, candied IPA that is not over the top but definitely lives up to described while hiding its strength.

Good Imperial IPA. Mostly West Coast style but with some added candy-like sweetness. Poured from a 16 oz can into a pint glass, this beer has a somewhat hazy gold color and a big foamy head with lots of lacing on the glass, Aroma and taste feature some sweet tropical fruit (the sweetness is a little like gushers), some citrus and resiny piney bitterness. The sweetness is not overdone and just adds a bit of complexity to an overall fruity, piney nicely bitter beer. Mouthfeel is crisp and seems fairly light because of the candy-like aspect. It is still bitter enough for me and the resiny mouthfeel makes it a nice throw-back West Coast IPA. There is little evidence of the 9% abv in the taste or feel. I would imagine a few of these would lead to the "Tripel effect" of well-masked alcohol on the brain. I had this with sausage and peppers and the beer held up well. Sweetness not a negative factor with food. Nicely done!!!

A delicious and super drinkable DIPA. Malty front. Juicy middle. Healthy hop finish. Resin and oil linger. It gets bigger and slightly more alcoholic as it warms. That being said, it's barely noticeable, and adds a nice sweetness. Creamy feel is surprisingly light. This goes down so easily that you can wind up on your face in an hour. Excellent beer.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 12/20/22. Also says "why do frogs luv Dubz Candy? Cuz of all of the hops" on the bottom. Pours slightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with amazing retention. Thick soapy lacing and moderate streaming carbonation on the glass. This is an amazing DIPA. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, pepper, pine, cracker, bread, herbal, floral, grass. Light-moderate pine, citrus rind, herbal, woody bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation and medium-plus body. Balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky/resinous hop mouthfeel. Lingering resin drying with no astringency. Dangerously smooth, mild increasing warmth of 9%. This is really something special, for a west coast DIPA it's spot on. Fresh and vibrant hops that remind me of Citra and even more so - Mosaic. Super clean and pretty crisp for the ABV. I grabbed a 4 pack because of the BA rating and it paid off.

On tap at the source: Airport Sycamore location.

A - Nice dark gold colored pour with a dense layer of creamy white foam resting on top.

S - Orange and citrus on the nose. Overall aroma is very light, maybe the serving temp is too cold?

T - Orange citrus, sweet red grapefruit, sweet tropical fruit, resiny tropical fruit sweetness (leans towards the candy sweetness side). Ends with some soft piney bitterness and lingering sugary/fruity presence.

M - Big medium body with sprightly, gentle carbonation giving way to a soft finish and a somewhat dry finish.

O - A little to candy-like but overall pretty decent.

Orangish copper with a big soft white head. Smells of orange Starburst or maybe fruity pebbles. The flavor is a bit sweet, citrusy, grapefruit, some pine, and a bitter finish that lingers. There is some alcohol burn. Medium bodied and well carbonated.

I'm really digging this one.

At 9% ABV it doesn't take much before you don't care what it tastes like.. It's a good very strong Double IPA that tastes like the best of old dirty socks (roommate in college said this about IPAs) ;-) I wish it had just a little more character, but I really wouldn't hold that against it - at least not for long...

Originally had on draft at WoB...being a fan of Mtn Candy, figured this had to be good...it.was!!! Found in cans locally and had to try. Canned 4/22...still fantastic DIPA in the west-coast style! Slightly dank and resinous but not overly so! Delicious! Again...well done Sycamore!!
