On tap at Steuben Brewing in Hammondsport, NY.
This one pours a slightly hazed dark yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This has a perfect smoke level in the aroma - there's a light spiced sausage aroma, with grassy/herbal hops, and a bit of sweet malt.
I think the malt character seems a bit sweeter than a typical pilsner, as the smoke character carries a sweetness to it, almost like a little sweet smoked sausage. There's a nice and slightly bitter hop character too. A smoked pilsner could end up being completely overwhelmingly smokey - it's a miracle that this didn't end up that way. Steuben shows some impressive restraint in their beers.
This is light bodied, crisp and really clean, with an amazing level of drinkability.
This is incredibly impressive. I didn't expect this level of care and restraint for lagers in the Finger Lakes.
