On tap at Steuben Brewing in Hammondsport, NY.
This one pours a golden clear yellow color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like oak, light berry tartness, wine, pilsner malt, grassy hops, and biscuits.
This works extremely well. The wine barrel lagering adds a light fruitiness and a light tartness, while also adding a delicious oaky bitterness to the strong pilsner base. There's grassy hops, and a nice biscuity and crackery malt backbone, with a nice crisp flavor on the finish.
This is light bodied, clean, and with a soft natural carbonation to it. It's very drinkable.
This was an ambitious project, and it worked very well. I'm glad to see Steuben taking risks like this, and succeeding.
