On tap at Swillburger/The Playhouse in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like roasted malt, light piney hops, lemon, and some smoke.
Black IPAs are never exactly my favorite style, but I still enjoyed it well enough. I'd want a bit more hop character, as it kind of just feels like a marginally hoppy and slightly thin stout as it is currently. The malt character is fine, mostly roast, touch of chocolate and smoke. There's a bit of lemon/grapefruity hop character, and a touch of weak bitterness, but I'd want more.
This is medium bodied, fairly creamy, with a pretty good drinkability.
This needs a bit of work, but it's a fairly decent start.
