New York Cone Perle Kolsch 5.0% ABV
Brewed to highlight the distinct characteristics of New York grown Perle hops. Whole cone hop flowers are unprocessed and left intact, and as a result, the finished beer better represents the hop aroma we experience during hop selection each harvest. These New York Perle hops have clean bitterness and subtle vinous character. New York Cone Perle Kolsch is crisp, delicate and so drinkable!

On tap at The Gate House in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a clean golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This definitely smells a bit hoppier than a standard Kolsch, but I don’t mind that. It’s got a peppery and spicy hop aroma, with some doughy breadiness.
The Perle hops give this a really refreshing spicy, peppery, and resinous bitterness, but it doesn’t overwhelm the delicate doughy and crackery malt backbone this one has.
This is light bodied, crisp, clean, and very drinkable.
There’s a lot to like here – I’ve always really enjoyed Steuben’s lighter beers.
