22 ounce bottle, label says bottled April 2018. Thanks to my buddy Denis for this brew, he said he purchased it on closeout for around $4. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that stayed around for a little while. Decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like burnt/charred malt, dark chocolate, rye whiskey, vanilla, oak and a bit of dark fruit. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some plum, coffee and anise flavors. Good amount of barrel character in both the aroma and taste. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit rich and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. It's also a little boozy, surprising since the bottle is more than 2 years old. Overall I thought this was pretty good, I'll have to see if my friend can find any more of this one!

6 February 2020 - Beer #22

Price: $8.99 at Linwood Wines at Hudson Lights in Fort Lee, NJ

Appearance: 5 - Black black with a small dark head. Pretty perfect.

Nose: 5 - ooo, lots of barrel, more than expected. More malt than roast, but it's subtle.

Taste: 4 - not as much barrel as the nose, but plenty tasty. Half roasty, half malty, and half barrel.

Mouth: 4 - not terribly thick, but it's taking it's sweet time on my lips. Sticky.

Overall: 4 - surprisingly good. At $8.99 for a big ol' 22oz. bomber, this one is a bargain.

Cheers!

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a jet black color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was an inch of creamy, tan-colored head that lasted a below average amount of time. Average lacing.

S: A very nice aroma of roasted malt, whiskey, oak, and chocolate.

T: Tasted of a hint of oak (not too much), lots of roasted malt (present throughout), a good shot of dark chocolate, a tinge of coffee, and a nice bit of rye whiskey. This is a big, bold, and complex flavor. It's a little on the boozy side at first, but that levels off as you go along; nonetheless, it's still the star ingredient. Quite delicious.

F: A fair amount of carbonation with a sharp finish. Full-bodied.

O: A well-made stout. Certainly drinkable.
