West Coast IPA hopped with Strata, Simcoe, Centennial & Cascade
Some actions have far more upside than downside...or vice versa. We'll let you decide where bringing you a West Coast IPA in a category where hazy IPAs are everywhere falls along that spectrum. More balanced than your New England IPA by design, this style of beer deserves credit for getting our brew team interested in craft beer from the jump. Therefore, it was unquestionably a style worth revisiting.
Asymmetry is hopped with Strata, Simcoe, Centennial & Cascade and has notes of grapefruit and Sunny D. Not a hazy IPA, on a scale of water to protein shakes, we think it's about a 4. Though it's our first West Coast IPA solo release (excluding previous collaborations), it certainly won't be our last; this style is, for us, a sure bet.

West coast with a light caramel tan appearance.
Big hoppy notes and a sharp drying bitterness on the end, touch of malt and some sticky hops rounds out the landing.
It’s everything I want in an IPA.

Good mellow level of creaminess, but not a lot of flavor or hop bite.

With the adaptation of haze in IPAs, we've learned a lot about hop forward beer. And a lot of that inteligence pours into other beer styles as well. Threes Brewing isn't giving up on their bitter and more west-coast driven IPA, but they are giving the style a juicy upgrade with the use of Strata, Simcoe, Centennial & Cascade on a softer bed of grain.
Bring their form of balance to the barstool, Asymmetry pours hazier than your average Californian ale while remaining on the richer side of gold. As a creamy white froth builds, its scent of orange, grapefruit and tropical fruit cocktail is met with a peppery hop bite. Gentle malt flavors coat the early palate with the lightness of honey, caramel and shortcake.
The unique hop combination really shines as the ale blankets the middle palate. Tossing much of its creamy malts to the peripheries of taste, the juicy and radiant character of those citrus influenced hops carry a branch-ripe freshness while a backdrop of tropical fruits seem that of pineapple, papaya, mango and passionfruit to support the racy citrus hops. Trending firmly bitter, the late taste is pleasantly grassy, piney, peppery and with an herbal tea and geranium curiosity.
Medium bodied, creamy but finishing semi-dry, the beer's refreshment is utmost as it finishes resinous, bitter and snappy. Off-clean with its grassiness, the beer's balance of juiciness gives the session balance into a medium-long aftertaste.

Copper to golden in color. Head is thick and bright white leaving lacing as it cascades down glass. Taste is typical IPA, however seemed to be missing the bite that is more often associated with West Coast IPA.

2d review. My 4th from brewer. Like it better than BAers.
a) Hazed golden body with ample head, last and lace.
s) Grass, grass, grass. Herbs. Pine. Melon. Mango.
t) Bitter, bigger, better.
f & o) ORIGINAL! like the dry grassy notes mixed with more complex fruit.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high bright white head that died down but never completely faded away and also left lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of mango and melon are present in the nose along with notes of grapefruit.
T: The taste follows the smell but has overall stronger flavors from the hops, particularly those of the grapefruit. There are some additional hints of pine in the finish and a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn't as intense compared to other West Coast IPAs, making it rather easy to drink.
