Dark brown, unfiltered pour with plenty of light, fluffy head. Pumpernickel, yeast roll, honey, florals, and some very light hop character on the nose. Reminds me of the best dark milds enjoyed on cask when I lived in England. Good biscuit and malt sweetness near the finish, a touch of cocoa powder bitterness, and a great mouthfeel for such a light ABV.

Brilliant. I wish I had more.

Pours a darkish purple brown from the tap, 1" head, good lacing and retention. Nose is big pumpernickel notes, earthier hop and baking spice notes. Flavors follows with roasted grain, nuttiness, dark bread, mild dark fruit. Mouthfeel is on the thin side but very refreshing. Another fantastic refreshing English ale from Threes.

Edit: had another canned which was a gusher - equally delicious, but beware!

On tap at Threes Brewing in Brooklyn, NY.

This one pours a golden brown color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like chocolate, rye, honey, crisp bready malt, and earthy hops.

This is quite wonderful. There’s a clean but earthy flavor here, with some slight honey sweetness. It manages to catch a honey vibe without actually being sweet. There’s nutty and bready malt, some light dark chocolate, and a pleasant bitterness.

This is clean, light bodied, and very drinkable, with a smooth finish.

I almost always have to order dark milds when I see them - as not enough places are making them these days. Any darker beer with a low ABV is gonna intrigue me.

This one pours a dark mahogany brown. Its actually rather cloudy when held up to the light. The head on this is fantastic - thick, velvety khaki colored head settles in on the beer. The head recedes a bit, but ultimately settles in with a thin layer of velvety foam on top. The aroma on this has notes of grain, barley malt, a mild, wet earthy note (think early morning field with the frost melting on it), a touch of unsweetened cocoa, and some very subtle woody notes. Not getting much in the way of the honey.

The taste follows the nose with notes of grain, dark bread, barley, with a lightly toasted character, but not at all roasted. There is an ever so slight twangy note along with a lovely wet earthiness to the beer. Its not really sweet, but there is a light brown sugar quality to it. Finally, those cocoa notes on the nose come through in the profile with a light powdery cocoa note on the back end of the beer. I am not getting much honey or honey-like flavors from this. even so, the flavors are lovely with some nice complexity. Feel is smooth, moderately bodied but stlll very easy drinking. Mild carbonation. Like any canned dark mild, it does not quite capture the feel I want from this style, but this is not offensive.

Overall this is a lovely Dark Mild from Threes and Forest & Main.
