Bottle. Tan head. Dark brown color.
This actually tastes a lot like nothing. Barley and cereal malts. Some caramel. There isn’t much else. Maybe some booze showing. Can’t find the rum. Can’t find much.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep brown topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of cream colored head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with some slight lacing
S: Smells of aged piney hops, rum barrels, caramel, and brown sugar with some slight earthy notes
T: Taste is brown sugar, aged piney and earthy hops, oak, slight rum barrel influence, caramel, more brown sugar and a little more fruity rum. On the swallow there's more rum barrels, aged and faded piney hops, hint of citrus rind, and some lingering fruity rum with a little oak.
M: This beer has a body which is on the heavier side of medium with a slightly silky feel on the palate. Carbonation is on the low end but it is adequate for the style while the beer has a neutral finish that's a little drying.
O: Overall this is a really solid rum barrel aged barleywine. The barrel influence isn't too strong and still allows the base beer to shine though with some nice complementary flavors. Really nice complexity as well which helps to make this one to try if they make it again.

Split this one with some friends. Pours a dark brown amber with a nice 1 finger khaki head. Aroma is nice American barleywine with the hops, dark fruit, caramel and toffee. The rum barrels offer a nice complementary sweetness. Flavor is almost like fresh Bigfoot with all the hops up front, but it moves into some sweeter notes of caramel and the dark fruits. Seemed a bit hot, but was enjoyable as it warmed. Feel was medium and a bit sticky. This was pretty good with 7 months of age, but I think it would take on an even better flavor between 1 and 2 years.

A- Pours a slightly muddy brown, with garnet highlights. Head is huge and fluffy, yet disappeared quickly. Leaves decent lacing on the glass.
S- Typical for the style. Figs, prunes, rye bread, and toffee. The spicy rum notes are buried, but show more as it warms.
T- Fuuuuuuuuuuuck... This is 11%?!?!? Really??? The taste follows the nose, pretty much, showcasing a bit more of the rum character. Molasses, Medjool Dates, and velvety Creme Brûlée smack you in the mouth. The ABV is well hidden, here. It's warming, but not hot.
M- Slick, smooth, and almost creamy. This beer is WAY too easy to drink, given the alcohol content. Carbonation is low, serving to push the flavors across the palate without being intrusive.
O- Hot damn. This beer is a little slice of Barleywine heaven. I had a slice of Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake with it, and it made the experience even better. The only complaint I have is that I want to finish it tonight, but would really regret doing so, tomorrow. NBC really knocked it out of the park on this one. Get ya some. Cheers!!!!

Very strong head surprisingly given the barrel treatment. Mellow through and through in both feel and flavor. Nearing room temp, spicy rum notes and brown sugar come out. Dangerously drinkable, was able to kill a 750ml to myself :)
