From a big bottle that exploded with foam upon opening. Sampled on April 23, 2016.
Orange-red color with ridiculous amounts of head.
This may have been an infected bottle because the aromas felt way off - like cough syrup and a little oak under it all. Low hop profile.
Medium body.
The taste had a bit of licorice maybe but I simply could not finish it. First drain pour in a while. It was probably a bad bottle.

Technically an imperial amber, this is a nice winter warmer at heart, once the spices and rum barrels are added. Imbued with cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, the effect is distinctive but not overwhelming; the end result is a very nice spiced ale that is very well-balanced and suitable for a cold winter's night. The spices combine with the amber base beer to provide a bit of fruitiness, most notably persimmon and orange.
I enjoy cinnamon but am very sensitive to the spate of recent releases that have gone completely overboard with it; this is not one of those beers, mercifully. The spiced rum quality is quite evident but in balance with the rest of what Ninja Gnome has to offer. Very pleasant, and at a significantly lower price than Nebraska's Reserve Series of barrel-aged beers, definitely worth checking out if you've never given them a go.
