Our take on a robust Americanized Russian-Style Imperial Stout. Moderately hopped to liven up a richly malted classic. This is the base beer for our insanely popular barrel aged Reserve Series variants.

I grabbed a can of Little Betty from the 504 Craft Brewery and it was pretty good. I went back the next week and they were sold out. Oh well, I should have know Little Betty wasn't going to wait for me. This is not the A Class for Imperial Stouts, but I would give it a strong B +. At the end of the day, I knew I had an stout and Little Betty was gone.

Rich. A bit basic for an imperial stout, but then it seems Nebraska is brewing this to be a base beer for barrel aging markups anyway, so it stands to reason. Dark malts and chocolate specialty malt dominate throughout, culminating in a sugary but not cloying finish.
More roasted barley would help even this out a bit balance-wise, but it checks all the boxes an imperial stout ought to. Some charred malt/burnt sugar notes would help lend needed bitterness.

Pours an effervescent chestnut-hued mahogany with a pinky of tan head. Above average lacing & head retention
S: Roasty as can be, a little dark fruit
T: Follows the nose, some smokeyness as well, plenty of dryness. Some wooody hop notes along with dryness as this warms with plenty of roastyness, a slight bit of vanilla too. Finishes roasty & dry
MF: Medium body, firm carbonation
Well put together Imp Stout. If you like them dry & roasty, this one is on point

This beer is a thick, dark, utterly black beer. The head is tan, slim, but with tightly packed bubbles. Intense aroma...licorice, coffee, cocoa, even some tobacco. Balanced taste, with lots of bitterness and thick roasted malt flavors. Some smoke and charcoal as well. Full, thick body. Nice Stout.

I felt like I was drinking an ipa not a stout.

A: Poured from the 12oz can into a pint glass. The beer is an almost black color with just a bit of brown coming in on the edges when held to light. The head was 2+ fingers, frothy and dark tan.
S: Chocolate sweetness, hint of coffee and a bit of licorice. A little vanilla and caramel as well. Hugely malty.
T: Starts mildly sweet with milk chocolate over a bit of coffee, then the alcohol shows up. Slight brown sugar and vanilla. There is a nutty note in there as well.
Overall: This was a pretty average imperial stout for me, but still good. A bit heavy on the alcohol taste but that's to be expected.

Pours a dark brown almost black color. Thick frothy tan head dissipates steadily leaving a thin layer of tan foam and complete layer of lacing on the glass.
Aroma has notes of hops with a slight citrus tinge, some roasted and chocolate malts, and licorice. Very hop forward to the point of almost resembling a black IPA.
Taste has notes of roast malts, chocolate malts, bitter hops, licorice, tobacco and dark fruits. Very hoppy on the back end - grassy and slightly citrusy. Burnt ashy notes come through on the end.
Feel coats the mouth but does go down easy. Moderate carbonation.
Its not a bad beer per se - its just not great RIS. This is so very hoppy, I'd guess its a black IPA in a blind tasting.
