A - One finger of white foam on top of a slightly hazy, golden body. Low head retention with some lace.

S - Sweet pilsner malt with notes of anise and spicy hops. Clove and banana yeast aromas with a little bit of vanilla.

T -Honey flavored pilsner malt up front with spicy yeast. Pepper and anise notes with some mild, herbal hops and moderate bitterness. Finishes dry and spicy with a hint of vanilla in the aftertaste.

M - Medium-thick body, high carbonation, and a slightly dry finish.

D - A nice strong golden, my only complaint is a bit too much phenolic clove character in the flavor, but otherwise nice and drinkable. This is a significant improvement over last year's version, which was a bit rough and one dimensional. This is much better balanced with a more interesting and rounded yeast character.

Seasonal Belgian Ale, tasted 11/15/08 w/ TB & MG
Served from a traditional Belgian corked & caged bottle to 3 tapered bottom mugs. Icame across this typically draft served beer in a unique manner, so I decided to include the story.

A neighborhood friend was kind enough to bring me this beer for us to try together. It is rare to get brew pub beers delivered to your front door in a bottle, so I must it was a very pleasant Saturday afternoon surprise.

The bottle was unlabelled so I called 7 Bridges directly to find out the new Ale on tap in order to find out what style it was. It was described to me as a "Belgian Style strong Ale, light in color, medium body, semi sweet finish, brewed with 50# of rock candy. Similiar to a Duvel. 8.5% ABV"

I really enjoy Belgian Ales, so this was all good news. The description explained the traditional bottle presentation which gave it extra points for the appropriatte presentation!

A - 4.5, Cloudy pale golden straw color as appropriate, respectable head and lacing, extra .5 for the cool traditional bottle obviously chosen with care. This Ale could have more lacing, but it is solid no doubt.

S - 4.0, sweet smell is dominant, subtle hints of malt notes in background

T - 4.5, Malty and sweet on palate, semi sweet notes on finish. Taste is exactly as I expected for this type of Ale, so it's worth a try for sure if you like this type of brew!

MF - 4.5, Medium body, very respectable, medium on carbonation - very excellent balance on the carbo, I was very impressed w/ the carbo.

D - 4.5 I dig this stuff, the brewer did a fine job on this one, it's as it should be in my book for a Belgian craft Ale. Thanks to my beer neighbor (TB), and to 7 Bridges brewer(s) for a great rep of American produced craft Belgian!
