this one isnt all that impressive. its lacking body and grain depth that i look for in the style, and it seems more like a brown ale, almost watered down or something. that said, its not off or messed up, its just a really light take on the style. i dont get very much roasted malt on it, especially compared to their very dark and luxurious oatmeal stout. its lacking there for sure, and there isnt enough else going on to make up for its absence. i also like this style with some structure, and it really doesnt have much. thin and easy drinking darker beer if thats your thing, but it left a little to be desired for me, especially compared to their other recent released which have marked a significant step forward for these guys. better maybe in late summer or early spring than in the thick of the cold weather, i will revisit it then, but my overall impression is that this is a pretty weak example of the style, but not at all a bad beer in general. if they just called this a brown ale and threw it at me, i would have very few complaints.
