a new dubbel from these guys, its cool they have had a bunch of new beers that last few times i have been in after running with a pretty steady lineup for so long. this is pretty good objectively speaking, more drinkable than a lot of them are with a lighter body, less residual sugar, and a lower alcohol content, but its plenty full of flavor, its just kind generic, much as i enjoy the glass, its not really turning me on. a little thin in feel, and less carbonation than i like my belgian styles to be, but good flavor here, molasses and maple and candy sugar as its base, dried raisin and fig, fruity sweetness, black tea and cherry, well restrained belgian yeast esters. subtle clove in the flavor, red apple, dried and sweet, raisin and rum and white pepper and allspice and its wintery to me, not overly sweet at the end which is nice. kind of liquid bready underneath, brighter from the yeast, and pretty balanced. it just doesnt have the richness and depth of the best examples of the style, but i hope they keep making some belgian stuff, they seem to have a pretty solid grasp on them...
