Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a coppery golden amber, appropriate for a honey beer with a fine one finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of grainy malt, honey, saison yeast, lightly floral and spicy. Flavor starts with semi-sweet honey, mild sweet malt, grain; thins out quickly into a lightly pilsner style hopped drier finish. Medium bodied with a pleasant creaminess, nice mouth feel for this light a beer. An interesting hybrid of kolsch (apparently the yeast used here) and light mead. The hops are a bit stark due to the lightness of the finish, but the malt and honey combination are quite pleasant. I like mead, but this quite a bit lighter than most meads. A pleasant, honey infused beer that leans closer to a kolsch body than any braggot I've had, but heavier body and honey do resemble that old style. I liked this. Really over the top mouth feel for a light ale. Well done. If their meads come into our market, I'll check them out. The brewery name is a little confusing; Red Branch Brewery is named on the bottle, but if you go to the website, this beer is listed under Rabbit's Foot Meadery, which is at the same address. Red Branch Cider Company is at the same site.
