Got this at the lovely brewery in Brittany. A real beauty of a place this is. I was only disappointed I didn’t bring a bag lunch so the family could hang out there on the lovely deck and watch the river flow by over a few brews.
From a 750 into a snifter
Best before end 2014
APPERANCE: Clear brown pour yields a three finger, medium-looser looking, foamy and crackly light tan head with good retention. Transparent bistre brown body with lower levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full foamy cap. A ring remains until the end but leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Some roasted notes, dark fruits, milk sugars are there and a touch of spice from the yeast. A degree of All-Sorts licorice comes across a little odd. Okay.
TASTE: Lightly roasted up front, but the flavor comes out more assertively after the swallow with some chocolate and tobacco flavors. A medium but lingering aftertaste of lightly roasted barley, some dark fruit, sweet milk sugar, a bit of chocolate and some spicy yeast flavors. Decent stuff here.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. A bit prickly on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch dry. A bit lighter on the palate than hoped, perhaps.
OVERALL: This is okay but it lacks a little character. The feel is a little airy on the palate and not much stands out here. For myself, I would prefer a little more milk sugar and perhaps a different yeast strain. Still, this is a nice beer and nothing to pass up on. Cheers guys!
