Got this at the lovely brewery in Brittany. A real beauty of a place this is. I was only disappointed I didn’t bring a bag lunch so the family could hang out there on the lovely deck and watch the river flow by over a few brews.
From a 750 into a snifter
Best before end 2017
APPEARANCE: Pours a 2 ½ finger, thinner looking, foamy white head with decent retention. Clear gamboge orange with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a foamy cap. A slight ring remains until the end but leaves no real lacing down the glass. A little lack luster for the style.
SMELL: Nice nose of caramel, light melon, floral hops and some grassy aromas. A bit of mint is out of place perhaps, but the rest seems to be well placed. Oddly interesting, if that makes any sense.
TASTE: Caramel malt sweetness, slightly grainy, with some sweet honey up front as well. Floral hop notes at the swallow, moving into a mild but lingering finish of sweet honey and bready notes, light mint flavors, some floral bitterness and grassy flavors as well. Again, the mint is a bit out of place, but the rest is easy drinking.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry. Fine here.
OVERALL: A bit grassy and grainy perhaps, with an interestingly odd mint quality in there as well. Still, while this didn’t really remind me of a classic English bitter, it was a good beer that I easily finished myself. Fine for a brew at lunch, but not something I’d sit down with alone.
