Got this at the lovely brewery in Brittany. A real beauty of a place this is. I was only disappointed I didn’t bring a bag lunch so the family could hang out there on the lovely deck and watch the river flow by over a few brews.
From a 750 into a snifter
Best before end 2017
APPEARANCE: Pours a three finger, medium-looser looking, foamy, off-white head with good retention. Clear burnt umber in color with medium levels of carbonation. Head fades to a foamy wisp. A splotchy wisp and ring remain leaving touches of lacing down the glass. Nice color and lacing, though the head is a touch foamy for my tastes.
SMELL: Toffee, light peated notes, some smoke and nice earthy hops on the nose. Good stuff and well measured.
TASTE: Lots of leather, peated and smoky flavors up front, with a nice earth finish at the swallow. Medium but drier finish of leather, peat, some smoky notes and sweet caramel and toffee elements. Good stuff, and well balanced between the sweet base and smoky peated malts. Well done.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry.
OVERALL: Pretty good stuff. The smoked malts were done really well and blended nicely with the other sweet caramel malts in the recipe. Though the Amber was probably the best of the bunch, this is the one I’d reach for a second serving the quickest. Cheers!
