Got this at the lovely brewery in Brittany. A real beauty of a place this is. I was only disappointed I didn’t bring a bag lunch so the family could hang out there on the lovely deck and watch the river flow by over a few brews.
From a 750 into a snifter
Best before end 2017
Galaxy hop exclusive
APPERANCE: Pours a three finger, medium looking, creamy, off-white head with very good retention. Hazy gamboge orange in color with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a full wisp and clings to the sides of the glass. A splotchy wisp remains until the end and leaves some touches of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Pale malts, some nice melon aromas, honeydew, light grapefruit and watermelon on the nose. Nice stuff, though it could be a touch more forthcoming.
TASTE: Pale malts, grassy hops and a good dose of hop bitterness at the swallow. Bold and lingering finish of floral and grassy hop flavors, some melon and honeydew sweetness, as well as some caramel and a good punch of lingering bitterness. Fine and balanced enough, but the hops seem to simply add more bitterness for the sake of bitterness and there isn’t enough dynamic hop flavor for the style.
PALATE: Thinner body and slightly higher carbonation. Prickly on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch drier.
OVERALL: This is good stuff. The hop additions were perhaps too heavily weighted on bittering additions, but the sweet malt flavors were done well and were nicely balanced by said bittering hops. I would like to see more flavor and aroma from the hops myself, but the quality and balance of the brew here must be valued. I would say the feel needs a little work and the hop additions could be re-assessed, but this is a worthy brew worth a shot. Cheers for the warm welcome guys, and cheers for the special bottle you guys generously gave me to take home.
