Borrowing techniques from the traditional German brewers, this Berliner Weisse style ale is brewed as a "Vollbier", meaning "full" or "entire" beer containing 11 - 14% Original Extract. This correlates to an increased alcohol content (5.7% ABV) compared to the "Schankbier" Berliner Weisse style ales that have recently seen a revitalization in the craft beer market. Whirligig Imperial Berliner Weisse's grain bill includes an ample portion of wheat and German Pilsner malts and the beer is fermented with our house ale strain and Lactobacillus delbrueckii, which imparts a crisp and refreshing tartness that goes swimmingly with the subtle citrusy hop notes.
