Very Good
West Coast Style IPAWest Coast Style IPA
Notes: Brewed with pale barley and wheat malts and flavoured with varieties of American and German hops famed for their floral “white wine”, tropical and stone fruit flavours. Using English ale yeast and left unfiltered for added fruitiness, this beer has a partially soured mash and is aged in contact with French oak. The most noticeable feature of this beer is of course its intense hoppiness, which balance the round fruitiness of the hops and yeast. We make a few different IPA’s at Mill Street, but this is our flagship. Brewed on the west coast of Lake Ontario.

NO can date, just a code, picked up yesterday at the brewery

Pours a larger fluffy dense head with nice soapy lacing, great retention, very hazy cloudy lemony-tan color

Nose brings clear mosaic out front, and sure enough mosaic on the label, onion pine, earthy dank onion, light tropical fruit and citrus behind that but barely, light blond malt

Taste brings light citrus and grapefruit zest, very bitter orange rind like, into big pine and earthy dank onion again, bad mosaic dominating, light blond malt, creamy malt like, pithy, a little thin, dry gritty finish, turning a little astringent as well, bitter rind lingering

Mouth is med to lighter bod, a bit thin, astringent, higher fluffy carb

Overall another poor beer, malts are barely there and didn't even come close to the base for a good beer, and the hops were bad with the pine onion mosaic, and astringent finish, just sad beer

Murky orange color with a distinct citrus taste (I believe the orange color encouraged to call it a mild orange flavor). Mildly tangy. Pleasant foam head (very white).

I was pleasantly surprised by this. The head was nice and white, fairly thick depending on the pour method, and seemed to last reasonably well. Quite a fruity smell to it, backed up by the taste, with lots of citrous notes. The feel in the mouth was good, with no lingering issues.

Got this one at the LCBO this past summer

From a 16oz can into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a 2+ finger, medium looking, fluffy white head with excellent retention. Murky gamboge orange in color with medium levels of carbonation. Head fades to a full foamy cap leaving touches of lacing on the glass. A splotchy wisp remains until the end leaving dots of lacing falling down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Pine, grapefruit, mango and some pineapple on the nose. Decent strength and some nice fruit character here.

TASTE: Grapefruit, pine flavors, pineapple and mango up front. Fruity and tropical. A big finish of pineapple, grapefruit, some tropical notes and hop bitterness linger on the palate. Notes of bread too.

PALATE: Medium body with higher levels of carbonation. A little foamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes dry. A touch of hop bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: Okay I guess. Some restrained bitterness and there’s definitely some well measured hop character here. This is definitely more New England style than it is a West Coast style IPA. Either way, it’s nice but nothing worth writing home about.

This is a refreshing hazy IPA, very good both on tap and in the can, unlike many Canadian beers which don't have much head when from the cans. Recommended.

Poured into a tulip glass from can. Pours hazy pineapple with minimal collar five minutes in. OK nose here - pineapple and fruit not too complex. Something else present as well on occasion -malty. tastes Ok as well pretty light and minimal hops here. Would serve as an OK intro to IPAs if new

341ml bottle from LCBO. Pours cloudy deep gold colour with a rich and creamy off white head. Aroma: Faint tropical fruit, peach? Mango? Some lemon. Taste: Does not have the citrusy piney hop bitterness I would expect - lemon - (furniture polish) bitterness more grassy than citrusy. Looks good but not much to it really.

Looks like cloudy lemonade in the glass with lots of fast rising carbonation, and 4 fingers of off white head.

Smells slightly fruity, of peaches, pears and mangos.

Tastes of bruised pineapple juice, with hints of pine and grapefruit. There's a slight dankness as well that is almost like body odour.

Medium, slightly juicy body, with little carbonation.

Drinking by the lake on Dec 17th, 2017. Not quite hitting the mark for the name in my opinion, but looks nice in the glass.

The beer is a hazy golden colour and it has a thick white head.

The smell is citrus and other unidentifiable fruit.

The taste is citrus, that unidentifiable fruit, and a bitterness from the hops.

The beer is medium bodied, there is a juice quality, and the finish is wet.

This is not unlike other West Coast style IPAs. The quality is very good.

If you enjoy this style of IPA I suggest trying it.

Serving Type: 341 mL Bottle

L- Pours a hazy pale yellow topped by a 1/4 finger foamy head with fairly poor retention. Light lacing on the glass.

S- Mild but pleasing aroma of Tropical fruit. Not getting much else here.

T- Biscuity malt, tropical fruit, mixed citrus, slight pine. Well balanced.

F- Light but not enough to be watery. Moderate carbonation.

O- Nothing extra special here but I was really impressed with the flavours in this brew. Light enough to make a top notch summer day brew!

Pours a uniform golden amber with significant cloudiness & a tall foamy head with some lacing which fades moderately. Definitely smell the citrusy hops, although it's a mild aroma overall. Taste is nice, with some citrus up front & a touch of pine - also mixed in is a bit more bready malt than I'd expect from the name & look but overall pretty good. Not really any harsh bitter after taste. Not really what I'd call a hop bomb but pretty good esp for a brewery that's gotten as big as this one has.

I got a bottle of this from a mixed pack that I bought whilst in Hamilton for my son's hockey tournament. It poured a hazy yellow with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent is faint citrus. The taste is nicely balanced and easy to drink. There is a tangerine sweet presence. The Mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's ok certainly worth a try.

Pours a turbid, orange body with a slight bit of creamy white head that dissipates to around a quarter of an inch high in a standard pint glass. The aroma has plenty of peachy and light citrus fruits, with not a whole lot else going on there. The taste is pretty strange, like an orange juice gone bad with citrus at the front decaying to some slight bitterness. I'd like to call the real Mill Street out to step up their IPA game a little bit. Though I know many people hate to hear it, an IPA is nothing without a strong malt backbone!!!

Look: Pale. Slight haze.
Smell: Orange juice.
Taste: Tropicana. Pineapple, orange, lemon.
Feel: Whatever. Mouthfeel is typical.
Overall: Really solid beer. It's pretty sweet, and tastes like fermented tropicana. Not much in terms of malts.

473ml can. Served cold in a sonic pint.

Hazy light orange colour. Scant half inch of head dissipates quickly. Nice lacing.

Aroma is dominated by citrusy hops.

This is a nice surprise. A really juicy citrusy hop bomb: grapefruit, orange, tangerine. Light malt sweetness on the back end.

Light, crisp mouthfeel for an IPA. Not much bitter aftertaste either.

I put off trying this one mostly out of some vaguely punk rock anti-corporate sentiment, but I have to admit it's a pretty damn good beer albeit on the light and inoffensive end of the IPA spectrum. I think I'd actually put it closer to the East Coast IPA sub-style (which I tend to associate with fruity, citrusy hops and complementary yeast esters) than West Coast (pine), but hey what do I know that those corporate marketing geniuses don't?

Cloudy straw/yellow color with a small white head.

Resinous smell, a little on the malty side for a west coast IPA.

Not a bad flavor, resinous and floral hops. the malts are not that present in the mouth, low to medium bitterness.

Not a fan of the mouth feel here, not enough body.

Appearance is orangey gold and very cloudy. A nice foamy head with lacing.
Aroma is high on the citrus side. Fresh grapefruit.
Taste is a lot like it smells. Fresh citrus fruits. A little oily on the back of the tounge and a sudsy mouth feel.
Overall a very good American IPA. The high alcohol of 6.6 is almost not noticed. Be careful!

Mill Street West Coast Style IPA. Bought it in a 12 summer mix pack.

Look: Orange thick. 1 finger of white head.

Smell: Orange, mango, but the smell is not that strong on the nose.

Taste: Very fruity, orange peel, lemon peel, mango, orange, some raisin on the background, bitterness at the very final.

Feel: Light to medium body. the fruity flavor comes back about a minute after. Very smooth.

So overall would I recommend it? One word, Yes. A very good IPA, it has flavor, the smell is not quite there, the finish goes a bit bizarre. But overall this is a solid beer.

The knock on Mill Street for so long was that, after establishing a foothold, they were coasting something fierce. With this new beer, they're West COASTing. Ha ha ha no but seriously, this is delicious: credit to Mill Street's new AB-InBev corporate overlords.

Turbid yellow colour; stupid cloudy. Two fingers of head with solid persistence. Smell is orange juice, grapefruit juice, grapefruit pith, maybe some papaya or mango. Faint piney-ness. Light malt profile. Taste is juicy and fruity and bitter--finish with more pine/herbal hop, but feeling quite a bit like grapefruit juice in the early stages. Thick, juicy body, Middle-of-the-road carbonation.

To hate this would be . . . unchivalrous. It's no Fresh Squeezed, but it's in the same time zone (hah!), and decently priced, to boot.

Delicious. Extremely drinkable. Thoroughly enjoy the hop flavour and lack of harshness. If this were made by a smaller brewery I feel like it would be getting higher reviews. I've only tried it once, but this could be my new Ontario ipa favourite. Did i mention the drinkability?

It's not the IPA I was expecting. I would suggest this is more of a hybrid between a Wit beer and an IPA. Although I was expecting a dry sharp front note to the beer, the grapefruit and rind nose were nice and the flavour wasn't too sweet. I'd has to know more of west coast style IPA's to really discern where it ranks. A drinkable beer. Also noted, a beautiful golden blonde colour.

Pours cloudy blond with a small but persistent cap. Light citrus and some cereal grains in the nose. A good dose of resiny grapefruit peach hop flavors dominate the taste. Solid maltiness makes this a less assertive than average west coast IPA. The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with high carbonation. Moderate bitterness and citrus in the finish.

This is a decent IPA, but there are more bold offerings available locally. A decent entry IPA. Worth a tr.y
