On-tap at the brewpub. Mahogoney brown with reddish tinge, and some white head. Almost neutral aroma, malt, faint barley. Mouthfeel is above average, i am getting a little roasted malt, low bitterness, maltiness carries it. Unoffensive yet not overwhelmingly drinkable.

A: Mahogany with a light tan head, not much retention but a touch of lace.
S: Earthy caramel & spice with a little roasted malt & smoke.
T: Earthy caramel, smoke, spice, roasted nuts, cola. Balanced bitterness (though perhaps a little much for the style).
M: Moderate body & carbonation, some residual sweetness.
D: Decent, but not overly enticing.

This beer has a very dark ruby body (bordering on brown) with a generous and creamy tan coloured head, that exhibited great retention and lace. Light roasted malt aroma, with a slight caramel sweetness balanced out by some hoppy sharpness. Hints of earth and smoke linger in the background.
The aroma does a really good job of advertising the contents of the beer here, as I'm getting exactly what my nose told me. Initially the tongue is hit by smoked malts, with caramel and nuts in the middle, before transitioning to a slightly sharp bitter finish. There are also nice hints of peat and spice. Carbonation is medium, though I thought it was a bit better after some of the CO2 had been released (fortunately nothing a swirl can't fix). Overall though, the body is nice and smooth.
Decent drinkability on a style I wouldn't usually reach for, and yet another solid brew from Mill Street. Its perhaps a little too bitter and not sweet enough for a scotch ale, but I liked it.
