On tap At the MS Pub:

A dark black color with a tight 2 finger tan cap....decent lacing.

Subtle aroma of sweetness, light mustiness, grassy hops.

Full bodied, rich cocoa-coffee tastes mingle with roasty malts and a modest sweetness, balanced well with some light bittering...the finish is roasty sharp and lightly bitter.

One of the better milk stouts I have tasted, lactose sweetness is detectable but subtle, very fresh, very approachable

A: Black with a tan head, great retention & lacing.

S: Roasted grains (coffee, nuts & hints of dark chocolate) with hints of sweet fruit.

T: Incredible amount of flavour for its weight. The roasted bitterness is nicely balanced with a little sweetness, though it really isn't very sweet for a milk stout. Coffee, nuts, brown sugar and a hint of fruit.

M: Moderately full body (it really feels bigger than it is) has an off-dry finish.

D: Very drinkable.

Served in a dimpled mug at the brewpub.

Pours a very dark reddish brown, almost black, still some colour gets through in the edges, decently thick tan head forms, quickly settles down to a thin ring and leaves a few chunks of lace. Smell is nice, quite sweet, very caramelized, lactose, milky, light chocolate roast, biscuit, touch of dark fruit, brown sugar and coffee. Taste is similar, pretty sweet up front, lots of caramel and brown sugar, chocolate milk, light roast, raisins, some coffee with sugar, lactose really builds. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, feels a little thin, with medium carbonation. Pretty smooth and drinkable, but a touch too thin and sweet for my liking. Good but not enough going on, but nice to see Mill St. is finally playing around with some different styles.

Finished off the remains of a growler of this before bed last night, and I can say this is probably one of my favourite local stouts.

Pours a moonless midnight, and even after holding the glass up to the light the pitch black doesn't waver or weaken. Its crowned by a bubbly mocha head that leaves chunks of lace and sheets, while exhibiting perfect retention. Coffee ground aroma follows through strongly in the heavily roasted flavour. There's a slight lactic sweetness, but not as much as I expected, and I would have struggled to identify this as a milk stout had I not already known. Lightly bitter finish, with most of the sharpness provided by the dark roast. Lingering finish. The body is medium with a spritzy carbonation, which I feel bulked up the mouthfeel somewhat.

Mill Street are really hitting their stride!

Had it again at Volo and then at the brewpub itself, and its damn good. One of the best local beers I've had.

Opaque black and coffeeish topping. Some lace. Nose is roast and coffee. Way too cold, served at the brewpub. Slightly under average mouthfeel, and sourness and then..sediment. A little lactose, much roast. Carbonation a bit too much, roast and sediment thick and there is real coffee ground here.
