I was so happy to find this still on tap when I arrived. It came in a Warsteiner pilsner glass. The beer was an ambered orange to light brown color with very light coating of head from the delicate pour by the bar staff. The nose was awesome. Sweet cream-covered cherry, a light acidic tartness. Everything blending well and not blasting me with the sour or cherry. If they bottled this, I would have my wife wear it as perfume. The taste was divine. An initial light puckering sour hit, moving to a velvety creamy cherry. Nothing too strong, but everything good. The feel was thck and creamy with a light carbonation. It left a little stickey spit in my mouth, but I like that with my sour beers. Overall, a taste experience. The beer was refreshing, easy to drink and just as tasty as I had hoped it would be. Lunar is quickly becoming one of my favorite brew-pubs anywhere.

Arrived in a flute glass with a nice cloudy amber orange color and some hints of red. A nice small head formed on top and left some delicate lacing in its wake. Aromas of big sour cherries are noticeable first along with a bit of yeasty funkiness and some caramel swetness.
First sip brings a lovely fresh sweet/sour cherry mix along with hints of cocoa and caramel. Incredibly tasty and well balanced maltiness with a slight light woody tone in the middle. Slightly acidic with great yeasty phenolics. Wow. A wonderfully bulit example of the style.
Mouthfeel is smooth, crisp with good carbonation. I am a big fan of this style and wouldn't mind having a few of these at all. One of the best brewpub beers I've had and a great way to celebrate 9 years of Lunar Brewing. If you're in the Chicago area, check Lunar out..you won't be dissapointed. A highly recommended brew.

The Lunar has made Cherry Luna for their 9th anniversary.
From the table talker, it was described as a Flanders brown (bruin) ale made with one pound of sour cherries to each gallon. It was fermented on wood (perhaps they mean in wood?) and aged 2 ½ years.
The beer was served in an 8oz flute. It was a rusty red with a tight off-white head. When you hold the beer to the light you get some ruby and purple highlights.
The nose is of sour cherries and malt. The fruit smell is not artificial and smells quite appetizing.
The beer is sour with a big cherry kick. Everyone in my group that got this beer had the same reaction which was WOW is this different. The malts add a nice almost smoke like background taste and help cut the sourness a bit. The beer is silky smooth which may be due its 2 ½ years of aging. It has a low level of carbonation which seems well suited to the beer.
I would only have one of these per setting, but would have no problem ordering one every time I go the Lunar.
Congrats to the Lunar on their anniversary and congrats for a job well done with this beer!
