Pours a medium black to dark brown before it hits the lights. The beer takes on a dark ruby and cola color when held to the light. Plus you can see the good bubbling too. Great head and foam after each sip. The aroma has light coffee with heavily toasted and medium roasted malts. Pretty enticing and complex out of all the Schwarzbiers I've had. When this beer is had fresh from the growler, it takes like fresh milled then malted and roasted barely with a medium roast cup of coffee. Plus some sublte, but noticeable grassy hops and some crisp mineraly water. This the best schwarzbier I've had so far. I hope Lunar makes this a regular beer on their rotation.
Just a side note.
The first Wednesday of every month, my friends from work head over to Lunar and take it over. I press everyone to drink the beers they have on tap. First the in house brewed beers, then maybe the guest taps depending on the individuals taste. This beer made four new fas of the beer and the brewpub as a whole. This is a great introduction beer and taster beer for any respectable beer snob.
