This is the big daddy of stouts. The style was originally brewed in England for Catherine II, Empress of all the Russia's over 200 years ago. The high alcohol helped the beer make the journey to Russia. Technically a style of barleywine, our version of this whopper boasts malt, chocolate, roast, vanilla, coconut, and alcohol. Matured in a Napa Valley wine barrel from the Silverado Winery and naturally carbonated rendering an intensely creamy head and mouth feel. Served in a snifter. A true comrade during cold winter months.

This russian imperial from GB is unique.
Pours jet black, impenetrable to light. Good light tan head dissipates to ring quickly, but has good lace. The nose is smooth and suprisingly fruity. Like chocolate covered fruit on the nose. Taste is smooth and slightly oaky with vanilla tones, slight alcohol tones and wierd sort of fruti hop taste. almost no coffee bean taste, but the vinous fruitiness of the wine barrels comes out. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Drinkability is high for a russian imperial. Good offering but could use another two or three years of aging.
