This is the big daddy of stouts. The style was originally brewed in England for Catherine II, Empress of all the Russia's over 200 years ago. The high alcohol helped the beer make the journey to Russia. Matured in a Ukrainian oak barrel for 2 years rendering an intensely creamy head and mouth feel with huge vanilla, chocolate, coconut, and alcohol. A true comrade during cold winter months in the Arctic.

On tap at the Bistro Barrel Aged Fest.
Black in color with basically no head, although there is a bit of beige film floating on top.
Aroma is roast, chocolate, coffee, oak, and vanilla.
Flavor is very nice with lots of chocolate and roasted malt, along with some coffee, oak, vanilla, coconut, and slightly tart dark fruits.
Medium body with a fairly smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation.
Drinkability is high. Overall this is very good.

Enjoyed this at the Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Festival.

A pitch black beer with a bit of lacing at the top. The smell is pretty fantastic, with a mix of rich, ripe fruit and a slight sweet coffee undertone. The taste follows up with more fruit, but abated, and a rich imperial stout base. There's a ton of complexity in this and as it warms up getting chewy chocolate cake, chocolate covered cherries and again a little bit of coffee. Great mouthfeel with good viscosity - coats the mouth. This could be put back by the glass but given the limited nature of the brew and amount available, it is savored.

Served on-tap in a snifter; this is a special-occaision beer.
Aged two years in Ukrainian oak barrels.

Fabulous aromas of sherry, malt, wine, fruit and esters.
Taste is perfect. Lots of oak flavors including vanilla, coconut, pinepple, sherry, port, raisin, date and chocolate. Strong enough bitterness to counter the huge malt content but very little hoppy flavor or aroma.
A wonderful sipping beer-dessert beverage for those Alaskan winter nights. Mouthfeel is thick and full but not overwhelming. Extremely drinkable for such a big beer.
I had the pleasure of tasting this beer with Kevin the Glacier brewmaster and Dr. Fermento, beer reporter for the Anchorage Daily News. Both were effusive with praise for this exceptional beer.
