This is the big daddy of stouts. The style was originally brewed in England for Catherine II, Empress of all the Russias over 200 years ago. The high alcohol helped the beer make the journey to Russia. Our whopper boasts malt, chocolate, roast, vanilla, coconut, alcohol, and much more. A wide array of crystal, chocolate, and other dark malts combined with Premium English malt provide the extremely rich malty character. A true comrade.

I brought a bottle of this RIS back to the lower 48 after a work trip to Alaska. Labeled as “Batch 5164, Aged 6 yrs Ukrainian Oak; ABV 10.3%; 50 IBU”. This was a smooth, rich, and mega-satisfying RIS, with a nice chocolate and toasty taste. Not much carbonation, not too boozy, but that’s okay. Drinking it felt like snuggling under a comfy blanket.

On tap at the brewrey. Pours midnight black with a thin tan head. Initial impression is cocoa, vanilla, roasted malts, and a touch of dark fruits. Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth - almost like nitro. Finish is somewhat sweet, with lingering chocolate. Overall, a very enjoyable RIS - my first from Glacier.
