Came across this beer at a mini market on the road leading to the volcano in arenal- a German beer made in Costa Rica! Hells yeah!
Matketed as a dunkel weissbeer- pours deep brown with minimal effervescence and a color and body similar to a porter. Strong roasted malt smell- slight fruity ester. Taste is sweet malts forward, cocoa, leather, and fairly clean finish. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied, clean finish.
Overall- quite good- in a blind taste test- I would have assumed this was a porter.

a very dark wheat beer, heavy and rich for the style, and taking it a shade or two darker than i have seen in the style before. again, like the ambar they do, not at all a beach beer to me despite them seemingly presenting themselves in that light, but the beer is great, no denying, on tap at an on the sand beach bar in tamarindo, costa rica. it doesnt have much head to it, and looks more like a stout in the glass, with an almost black shade of dark brown and a lot of body. the taste is awesome though, i love dark wheat malt, and its really tasty in this beer because there isnt a ton else going on so it can really be appreciated. smooth and just short of burnt tasting, but really dark and intense, however, its rather dry in the flavor, and there is a lighter wheat complexion too, a bit of back and forth there, and then a german yeast strain that feels and tastes like some sort of hefe and lager hybrid, its drying and bready like a lager, but with a subtle baking spice complex as well. its sort of between a european dunkelweiss and an american stout, the malt is so dark and the body is so big, its really pretty unique. i like all three of the beers these guys make, and was excited to find this on draft. definitely one to try, it feels both traditional and original at the same time. very smooth and mellow. great stuff.
