First of all, this beer is categorized as a IPL with rye. It’s hoppy, but not overly bitter. It’s malt and rye notes mix with the clean lager yeast and these two flavors just work well together. Now the color is surprising, pouring a mahogany, and when held up the the light, deep amber. Is it still and I P L ? Maybe a IDL. Still the specialty malts to turn this beauty to the dark side are present in the aftertaste which is just touching figs and maybe the faintest plum notes. Mixed in there is a nice balance of spicy hops that jive with the rye nicely. This beer laces the glass nicely; even after sitting in a growler for 24 hours has a nice lasting foam thinly hanging on during the longest of sessions.
