In the interest of improvisation and exploration, we took our Barn Lager, Lawn Boy, and created our very own Czech inspired Dark Barn Lager. After drinking the beer for the first time, we sat and pondered, is this still Lawn Boy, or something entirely different?

Purchased cold yesterday at the source, kept cold. Poured from a 16 oz can dated 12/11/24 to a Nonic at fridge temp.
The body is extremely black. No light is detected passing through the edges even when held to a bright window. A 2in/50mm deep tan head sits above, the top of which holds some hills and valleys. The head fades to a ring within 5-minutes. Lacing is great early on, but poor later.
No surprise on the smell. We are talking malt here, some burnt caramel, brown tree leaves, dark chocolate and some tea.
The taste is similar to the aroma, but sweeter. Only long after the swallow does it dry out. Certain caramel and ash sensations linger for quite a while.
The mouthfeel is light but oily. Personally, I would like a little more carbonation.
A little sweet for a Czech Pilsner, but it's not sold as one. The can says Dark Brown Lager. Interesting beer. Glad I tried it and I will enjoy the other three from the pack. Not sure I would buy it again though. A little too sweet for my taste in malty beers.

Considering that this beer is the follow-up to Lawn Boy, I had high expectations, but it couldn't quite deliver. I was surprised at how dry and charred the roasty elements were, most prominently on the nose. It's much smoother on the palate, but even then, it falls short of greatness. Very smooth on the palate, owing no doubt in part to the side pull tap.

On tap at Armsby Abbey in Worcester, MA.
This one pours a fairly dark brownish black color, with a small head and a good bit of lacing.
This sense like both dark and milk chocolate, roasted malt, and breadiness.
This is pretty decent stuff. It’s quite chocolatey and maybe a little bit sweet for the style overall. But, the roast and breadiness is definitely there anyway, and keep this nicely drinkable.
This is creamy and pretty smooth, with a nice smooth finish. The pour off the Lukr side pull helped this be so creamy and drinkable.
I love the name reference here, and I like the beer too.

Pours a med-large frothy foamy tan head with moderate retention, fair sticky lacing, dark mahogany color barely any light
Nose smells very sweet and candy like, marshmallow and nougat mostly as well as baked cookie, besides that it seems to have decent Czech dark lager characters, a bit of roast, biscuity malt, light herbal spicy hop
Taste has some sweetness but not too bad... actually it seems to get sweeter as it goes, with more marshmallow, nougat, and cookie, that just shouldn't be there, sorry... behind that is a decent beer, some roast, hint of chocolate, biscuity malt with some baking spices, vanilla spice, light spicy hop character way in the background with low bitterness, fair sweet finish either, doesn't even finish dry
Mouth is med bod, soft fluffy nougat like, med fizzy carb, little sticky
Overall I'm really sad with this one, it seems like they have some of the right characters in there, but completely ruin it with the sweet candy bar pastry stout like characters, the other lawn boy was decent too, so this is surprising, WTF?!

On-tap 11/20/2021 at the brewery’s taproom in Exeter, RI, served in a Willi Becher glass.
A: The beer is a medium brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, nuts, lager yeast and touches of smoke & chocolate.
T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty but not too heavy roasted malt character and lager yeast followed by a toasted nut flavor and a faint hint of chocolate. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style. This is a very solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.
